Hardware for Faculty and Staff

Wash U IT Depot maintains a stock of laptops, desktops, and accessories that can be requested with a helpdesk request. All hardware requests require department/center approval and/or Office of IT approval. The process for ordering is as follows:

  1. If necessary, start by contacting the Research Office to ensure a computer purchase can be funded as you would like.
  2. Submit a hardware request to the IT Help Desk with the following information:
    • The individual who is receiving the computer
    • The type of standard equipment or indicate that something custom is needed.
    • The WorkDay cost center to be charged
  3. For standard computers, a charge will be entered into WorkDay for the cost center that you specified for approval, and the computer will be delivered to the deskside support team for the East Zone of the Danforth Campus. A technician will coordinate delivery or handoff of the equipment with you.
    • You will need to work with the Research Office and the Business Office to ensure the necessary justifications are in place prior to any approval of payment.
  4. If it is a custom computer, the IT Depot will work with you to get a quote that you can approve, and then they will process the order. Equipment will be delivered to the deskside support team for the East Zone of the Danforth Campus, and a support technician will arrange a time with you to install the computer.

It is the IT Depot’s goal to deliver all standard equipment within 4 business days. Custom orders may take 4 to 6 weeks, depending on availability.

Software for Faculty and Staff

Most software on university-owned and managed computers should be installed or updated via the “Software Center” in Windows or “Self Service” on MacOS. If you have a question or an issue with either of these resources on your university owned computer, please call the IT Helpdesk.

There are a number of software titles in which the university receives discounts and require a separate purchase. A full listing of the catalog can be found at the WUSTL Software Licensing website (must be on a university network or VPN to access). All titles listed can be ordered and installed by contacting the IT Helpdesk.

IT Help Desk

This group is available from 7:30AM to 7:30 PM Monday through Friday to provide desktop support. They are the first place you should call if you are experiencing technical difficulties.
